Seniors Honored at 2008 Men's Tennis Banquet

Chapel Hill, NC - The North Carolina Men's Tennis program held their post-season awards banquet Wednesday night prior to the start of the 2008 NCAA Tournament Saturday morning in Chapel Hill. Coaches Sam Paul and Tripp Phillips joined parents, alumni and friends of the program in celebrating the accomplishments of the 19-5, 12th ranked Tar Heels.
Carolina's eight seniors were the focus of much of the evening. The senior class has led Carolina to an incredible 68-14 overall mark the last three years, including the most wins in a single season (25 in 2006) and the school's highest ever national ranking (5th in 2007).
This season Carolina defeated #7 Florida State on the road and #4 Baylor and #9 Notre Dame at the ITA National Team Indoors. Carolina also defeated Duke in Durham for the first time since 1996.
Athletic Trainer Sally Mays was also honored for her 10 years of dedicated and excellent service to the men's tennis program at North Carolina. Mays was joined by her staff which included Jeff Hudson and Sonia Grysland. Dr. Henry Clark was also honored as the oldest living member of the North Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame.
The following senior awards were presented at last night's banquet held at the William and Ira Friday Center.

Dedication Award - Karl Wishart

Player-to-Watch: Clay Donato
Most Improved: Taylor Fogleman
