In the first of what we hope will be a daily feature, here's the best of today's College World Series-related stories from around the internet:
We start in Greensboro, where Tar Heel bullpen catcher Chase Jones is keeping a daily diary of his experiences in Omaha. Today's topic focuses on the role of the bullpen catcher. In case you missed yesterday's installment, Chase wrote about how the Tar Heels travel. Today's schedule is a somewhat light one, as the team will practice for an hour this morning. Mike Fox won't be there, as he's at home attending his daughter's graduation. He'll be back this afternoon.
Here in Omaha, the local newspaper printed their special CWS preview today, complete with a furry gorilla on the cover holding a baseball bat. The cover story, which looked back at the 10-year anniversary of the 21-14 Southern Cal-LSU title game and the changes that game created in college baseball, is not online. They do have online a photo gallery from yesterday's festivities plus some video of the Tar Heels. Given the weather problems in the Midwest over the past week, event administrators also must have a contingency plan to keep fans safe. The Omaha paper also has a good feature on Miami's Yonder Alonso. Of course, the best thing about it is that you can read it quietly to yourself without having to hear, "It's a Yonderrr Aloooonnnnsooooo feature!"
The hometown paper for tomorrow's opponent, LSU, has exhaustive coverage of the Tigers. They've named their starting pitcher for tomorrow at the same time they've been soaking in the Omaha atmosphere. It's a bit of a strange role reversal, as the Tar Heels are the team that's been here before while most of the perennial power Bayou Bengals are getting their first taste of the College World Series. Despite the increased pressure, the Tigers are still loose. Also, don't miss an off-the-field story from LSU, where the team is helping out a fan in need.
Keep an eye on TarHeelBlue.com throughout the day for photos and news updates.
