Lots of storylines from last night, but the biggest might have been the way Alex White has progressed from last season. Carolina's 8-4 win shows the growth in Carolina's ace. White is part of an experienced core that led to one of the night's best postgame quotes: "They just had an aura about them," according to LSU head coach Paul Mainieri. That's a nice statement about how far the Tar Heel baseball program has come. Former LSU head coach Skip Bertman also had some flattering comments about Carolina in general and White more specifically.
In Baton Rouge, of course, they're talking about a different storyline: the call on Ryan Graepel's double-play in the eighth inning. The call created quite a firestorm among the Tiger fans here in Omaha--and there are a bunch of them, even outside the ESPN broadcast booth.
The Chase Jones story continues to pick up steam: in addition to his daily reports for the News and Record (today's is here), he was the topic of a feature in today's N&O.
If you're ready to look ahead to Tuesday's opponent, Fresno State, the Fresno Bee is your source. Here's their game story from the win over Rice. The Bulldogs got a great start from Justin Wilson. Their pitching plans for Tuesday aren't as certain. It looks like the normal number-two starter, Clayton Allison, won't be available. Justin Miller or Holden Sprague are the likely starters.
