North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox
(opening statement): "Fresno State certainly outplayed us, outexecuted us. I like the way they played. For a depleted pitching staff, they did well. Hats off to Fresno State. We'll regroup and try again Thursday. I wouldn't describe them (Fresno State) as playing with nothing to lose. Everybody is equal once you get here. They did what they needed to do to win. The score could've been worse. Credit our guys for keeping it close."
(on being behind): "We don't play well when we're behind. I don't know why. Tonight we swung at a lot of balls. I thought the strike zone was small. I don't think we took advantage of it."
(about facing LSU Thursday in the loser's bracket): "We'll pitch Matt Harvey. I don't relish playing them again. We're both in the same boat. You gotta get all 27 outs against them."
North Carolina third baseman Chad Flack
(about being in the loser's bracket again): "Once you get in the loser's bracket it's tough. You just take it one game at a time, one inning at a time."
North Carolina pitcher Rob Wooten
(about being in the loser's bracket again): "Our backs are against the wall. We need to regroup and get ready for LSU."
Fresno State Head Coach Mike Batesole
(opening statement): "I'm extremely proud of our seniors. This is an older group, and these eight guys have been doing right for a long time and making sure others do right too."
"Sometimes it's tough for older guys to handle their piece and accept it, but these guys have all found their roles and handled them."
(about leadoff hitter Danny Muno reaching base five times): "That was a big part of it... Having your leadoff guy on and touch home, that's his job."
Fresno State relief pitcher Holden Sprague
(about making the UNC hitters expand their strike zone): "Yeah, we were able to make them expand the zone a little bit - they're an aggressive team and they make you work. We got a lot of help from our outfielders verbally, telling us we could throw strikes. They (our outfielders) had our backs all game."
Fresno State left fielder Steve Susdorf
(about the contributions of Fresno State's freshmen): "They are all doing a great job. The young guys have been stepping up and getting on base for the middle of the order. It's been a new guy every day, stepping up and helping us out a lot."
Fresno State relief pitcher Brandon Burke
(about being 2-0 in the CWS): "No one really expected this going in; none of us have ever been here before. You've got to think pitch-to-pitch and game-to-game. Some of these teams like Rice and North Carolina have been here the last couple of years and may have taken us lightly, but we just go out there and play hard every game."
Fresno State shortstop Danny Muno
(about feeling good at the plate): "I feel tremendous, but the team is doing well and that's a huge key. We expected to be where we are right now, and we're undefeated and that's the most important thing."
