Carolina's 9-4 victory over Coastal Carolina ran its record to 12-1 at home in NCAA play over the last three seasons. The Tar Heels have swept through nine straight games in the regional round since 2006 and are 3-1 in Super Regional play. UNC is now 69-50 in 119 all-time NCAA Tournament games, and Mike Fox is now 34-18 in the postseason.
UNC now has 50 wins on the season to rank as the fourth most victories in school history. The Tar Heels have recorded three of the top four win totals in program history over the last three years and have registered three straight 50-win seasons.
Carolina right-hander Alex White allowed three runs over seven-plus innings Saturday and now has given up just four runs in 16 innings over two starts in this year's NCAA Tournament. He logged his 10th straight game with six or more strikeouts and is now 11th in school history with 101 Ks this season. Over his last three starts, White has 25 strikeouts and has allowed only five earned runs in 23 innings for a 1.96 ERA.
Seth Williams went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI and has hit safely in 26 of 30 career NCAA games. His sixth-inning home run was his second of this postseason and his third NCAA homer of his career. Williams, who is batting .438 in the 2008 NCAA tourney, now has 33 career home runs tied for sixth in UNC history with 86 career extra-base hits.
Coastal Carolina scored 47 runs in last weekend's regional but was held to just four runs by three Tar Heel pitchers Saturday.
Dustin Ackley and Tim Federowicz both recorded their 20th doubles of the season Saturday to give the Tar Heels five players with 20-plus two-baggers on the season. Entering this season, only 13 players had reached the 20-double mark in school history. On the year, UNC has a school record 163 doubles.
Dustin Ackley scored two more runs Saturday and now has 77 on the season, which is tied for the third most in school history.
Kyle Seager's two-run double in the second inning gives him 72 RBI for the season, which is seventh in school history.
Tim Fedroff and Dustin Ackley each tallied one base hit Saturday, and they now have 103 and 101 hits on the season, respectively. Fedroff's 103 hits are tied for fourth in school history, while Ackley's 101 base hits are seventh.
Rob Wooten made his 104th career appearance Saturday, working the final 1 2/3 innings for the Tar Heels.
Kyle Shelton had two hits and two RBI Saturday and has four RBI in the postseason.
