North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox
Opening Statement...
"It is a pretty special day for our program, especially our six seniors. We will be able to go back out there and finish things up this year. I think our team is probably defined by a player like Garrett Gore. Garrett started for us all year and he doesn't play in the first game of the Super Regional. You saw it today, for him to get up and get a big base hit and a sacrifice fly. That probably defined our team more than anything, kids that just want to win and are willing to sacrifice personal achievements. My hats off to Gary and Coastal, what a terrific year they had. Any time you win 50 games at this level, it is a great achievement. I think we had one of our most complete games this season today, when we really needed it."
On Chad Flack...
"It is all about the players when you coach and your relationships with them. After the wins and losses, when you have been coaching as long as I have, you remember the people and the kids. I remember recruiting Chad and being in his home. Just him believing that he could take this program to the next level and I am glad that he believed that and we believed in him. I'm glad he can play another week or so and be part of our team. He is a special player and a special person.
Relief pitcher Rob Wooten
On returning to Omaha...
"It never gets old. It is a great feeling, we are very fortunate to get back, but we have some unfinished business to take care of."
On the team's experience...
"Experience certainly helps. We have a lot of guys that have been there and we have a lot of guys that haven't been there, so it will be a good experience for them. I mean once you get in between those lines, it is anybody's game and whoever plays the best ball wins."
Third baseman Chad Flack
On receiving a standing ovation...
"When the fans did that for me, it was hard not to show any emotion. I almost dropped a tear out there, if it wasn't such a competitive game. The fans are great out here and when they show love like that, it is something I will remember for a lifetime."
First baseman Dustin Ackley
On returning to Omaha...
"I think the biggest thing is for our players, who have not been there before. For our freshman and other guys it is a great experience. I think it is huge for our guys to get the experience."
On changing their approach this season in Omaha...
"I don't think so, I think everybody should just keep doing what they are doing. I do not think anything should change as far as pitching and hitting. I think if we play like we did all year we will be alright."
Coastal Carolina Head Coach Gary Gilmore
On his bullpen...
"It's kind of funny, a lot of things run through your head when you're out there. If we could play it over again, we could start back in February and I should have made Andrelczyk my number one starter. A program as great as North Carolina, all of their guys out there are fourth or fifth round draft pick guys. I said all along that if we could be in the ball game in the fifth inning, we would have a chance to win, but we haven't made it that far."
On Coastal's experience...
"I don't think our lack of experience hurt us. I think we learned a lot from this. My gut feeling is that this could have been a little bit more of a competitive situation than we put up this weekend. I do know that a few years ago before North Carolina broke through, they went two or three times where the Gamecocks put them away. So, it is a learning experience for certain. The bottom line is I want to thank everyone that was a part of this; this was a first-class run Regional. I can't say anything more. It was unbelievable how we were treated and all. That's probably the best team we've played all year. I don't know that we've played anyone that has the pitching staff they have. Every time you make a mistake, they make you pay for it."
Catcher Dock Doyle
On whether or not he plans to stay next year...
"I mean honestly this team has given me great motivation to come back, but my whole goal this year was to get to a Super Regional and set the bar another level and that's what is done. I just think it is time to move on, so that's what I plan to do."
Starting Pitcher Nick McCully
On the second inning...
"I made a couple of good pitches that they hit and they capitalized a little more on some of the bad pitches I made. It seems that everything I threw up there, they were hitting. I was trying to get out there and get our team back in the dugout as soon as possible and get everyone out of the heat. They just kept hitting the ball and there's really nothing else to say about it."
Centerfielder David Sappelt
On Carolina's pitching today...
"They kept us off balance today. We got kind of frustrated and ended up having to swing at pitches that they kept changing up to keep us off balance."
