T.J. Yates threw for 221 yards and three touchdowns, and Brandon Tate and Hakeem Nicks each scored a pair of touchdowns as North Carolina defeated Rutgers, 44-12, Thursday night in New Jersey. Rutgers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one quarter before the Tar Heels scored 38 points over the next 30 minutes. UNC improves to 2-0 going into next Saturday's home matchup with Virginia Tech.
