Tar Heels Rank Among Baseball America's Top Prospects

DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina junior right-hander Alex White and junior first baseman/outfielder Dustin Ackley were rated as the No. 2 and No. 4 college prospects, respectively, for the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft in the most recent issue of Baseball America.
In addition to Ackley and White, who were both All-Americas last season, right-hander Adam Warren ranked as the No. 8 senior prospect that returned to school after being drafted in 2008.
Ackley hit .417 with seven home runs, 51 RBI, 82 runs scored and 19 stolen bases in 2008, while White, the 2008 ACC Pitcher of the Year, was 13-3 with a 2.83 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 101 2/3 innings a year ago.
Warren, who was the Tar Heels' Saturday starter in 2008, went 9-2 with a 4.23 ERA last year and is 22-2 in three years at Carolina.
Additionally, former Tar Heels Daniel Bard and Tim Fedroff were rated among the top 20 prospects in their respective minor leagues. Bard, who was an all-class all-star according to Baseball America, went 4-1 with a 1.99 ERA and 64 strikeouts for the Portland Sea Dogs. He was ranked the No. 9 prospect in the Double-A Eastern League.
Fedroff, who was drafted in June after earning consensus All-America honors last season, was rated the No. 16 prospect in the short-season New York-Penn League after an outstanding first season with Mahoning Valley.
