Tar Heels Ranked No. 18 In USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Preseason Poll

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The North Carolina softball team is ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Preseason poll for the first time in school history this year as the Tar Heels were pegged as the No. 18 team as announced on Tuesday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll is voted on by NCAA Division I head coaches, one representing each conference. The Tar Heels are coming off their most successful season in school history as they posted a school-best 50-12-1 record.
Carolina which finished the 2008 season at No. 20 is ranked in the season's opening poll for the first time in school history. The Tar Heels received votes in the 2008 preseason poll before moving into the top 25 early in the season where they reached a new all-time high of No. 13. Carolina enters the season as the top-ranked team in the Atlantic Coast Conference and will take on five teams currently ranked in the top 25.
