University of North Carolina tailbacks A.J. Blue and Jamal Womble both sustained injuries in the Tar Heels' 42-12 win over Georgia Southern. Womble, a redshirt freshman from Sierra Vista, Ariz., fractured his right wrist covering the game's opening kickoff. Blue injured his left knee during the fourth quarter.
A true freshman from Dallas, N.C., Blue has played in every game this year at either quarterback or running back. He has 18 rushing attempts for 33 yards and has completed one pass for 24 yards. Both Blue and Womble will undergo surgery Friday at UNC Hospitals and their status will be updated following surgery.
