CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Ben Bunting posted career highs of three hits and three RBI, and Levi Michael and Mark Fleury belted home runs in No. 1 North Carolina's 10-3 win over Seton Hall Saturday at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels (7-1) also got a three-hitter from their pitching staff to sweep their sixth straight series from the Pirates (2-4).
Bunting, who had six hits in the series, was 3-for-4 with two runs and the three RBI in the finale. He plated two with a single in the third, singled in the fifth and drove in a run with his final hit of the night in the sixth. In addition to the home runs by Michael and Fleury, Kyle Seager doubled twice and scored two runs. Each Tar Heel starter hit safely on the night.
Right-hander Matt Harvey (3-0) earned his second win in as many days with three scoreless innings in a staff outing. He did not allow a hit and struck out five, while walking two. Harvey also picked up the victory in Friday's second game with a scoreless ninth.
Colin Bates struck out four and needed just 36 pitches to cruise through four innings, and Logan Munson pitched a scoreless eighth for the Tar Heels, who fanned 11 batters on the night.
Seton Hall starter Joe DiRocco (0-1) allowed six runs on six hits and four walks over six-plus innings.
The Tar Heels grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first when All-America Dustin dAckley walked and scored from first on a bloop double to left center off the bat of Seager. Two more walks loaded the bases, but UNC could not push across another run off DiRocco, until Michael took him deep to lead off the third.
The solo home run to right center was Michael's second of the season, and his first from the left side. The switch-hitting freshman homered from the right side this week against Coastal Carolina, also leading off an inning.
An Ackley single and a walk to Seager put two more on in the third before a one-hour, 26-minute weather delay. When play resumed, Fleury grounded to first to move both runners into scoring position for Bunting, who laced a single to left center to score two. Seton Hall left fielder Chris Spanuolo then dropped a fly ball off the bat of Tarron Robinson, allowing Bunting to score for a 5-0 Tar Heel lead through three.
The Tar Heels tacked on four more in the fifth to extend the lead to nine. Seager roped his second double of the night down the left field line, and Fleury connected two batters later on a two-run homer to left - his second of the season - off reliever George Fernandez. Bunting and Robinson singled, and Ryan Graepel followed with a two-run triple to right.
Bunting's RBI single in the sixth scored Garrett Gore, and that was all the scoring until Seton Hall scratched out three runs in the ninth, two of which were unearned.
The Tar Heels are back in action Tuesday against Longwood at 3 p.m.
