Tar Heel Women's Golf Team Tied For Fourth At LSU Classic

BATON ROUGE, LA. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team fired an eight-over-par 296 in the second round of the LSU Golf Classic and stands tied for fourth place with a seven-over 583 total going into Sunday's final round. The Tar Heels were led by freshman Allie White who fired an even par 72 Saturday.
White, from Lancaster, Ohio, has a four-under-par 140 total and is tied for second place, just two strokes off the lead. Senior Lauren Hunt and freshman Catherine O'Donnell both carded a three-over-par 75 in the second round. Hunt, from Little River, S.C., is tied for 15th with a two-over 146 total while O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., has a 147 total and is tied for 23rd place. Sydney Crane, a senior from Jamestown, N.C., carded a 74 on Saturday for a 151 total and is tied for 52nd while junior Kate Thomas, from Murwillumbah, Australia, posted a 79 and is tied for 75th with a 155 total.
Virginia fired a one-under-par 287 and grabbed the lead over the 18-team field. The Cavaliers have a four-under 572 total, eight strokes better than first-round leader Wake Forest which shot 296 for a four-over 580 total. Arkansas fired a four-under 284 on Saturday for a 582 total and is in third place. Tulane is tied with Carolina at seven-over 583 while host LSU stands in sixth place with a 584 total.
Calle Nielson of Virginia fired a one-under-par 71 for a six-under 138 total to hold on to the individual lead. Carolina's White and Arkansas' Lucy Nunn are tied for second place, two stokes back at four-under 140. A trio of players is tied for fourth place with three-under 141 totals - Virginia's Whitney Neuhauser, Wake Forest's Natalie Sheary and South Carolina's Benedicte Toumpsin.
The final rounds of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at the University Club which features a par 72, 6,424-yard layout. Live scoring is available throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com.
