Carolina Women's Golf Team 13th At UCF Challenge

The University of North Carolina women's golf team fired an eight-over-par 296 in the first round of the UCF Challenge and is in 13th place going into Monday's second round. UCLA leads the field of 18 teams with a six-under 282 total.
Tar Heel freshman Allie White led the Tar Heels firing an even par 72 at RedTail Golf Club. White, from Lancaster, Ohio, concluded the first round tied for 23rd place while teammate Catherine O'Donnell, also a freshman from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., is one stroke back at one-over 73 in a tie for 32nd place. Senior Sydney Crane, from Jamestown, N.C., carded a three-over 75 and is tied for 53rd place while junior Kate Thomas posted a four-over 76 and senior Lauren Hunt shot a six-over 78. Thomas, from Murwillumbah, Australia, is tied for 61st place while Hunt, from Little River, S.C., is tied for 77th place.
Arizona State is two strokes behind UCLA in the team race after firing a four-under 284 total. Oklahoma State and LSU are tied for third place at two-under 286 while Tennessee and Auburn are tied for fifth at two-over 290.
Jessica Yadloczky of Florida grabbed the individual lead after firing a six-under 66 in the first round. Three players are two strokes back in a tie for second place at 68 - Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State, Nicole Smith of Tennessee and Glory Yang of UCLA. Another three players are deadlocked in fifth place at three-under 69 - Amalie Valle of LSU, Pernilla Lindberg of Oklahoma State and Kelley Louth of Texas.
The 54-hole event continues through Tuesday at RedTail Golf Club which features a par 72, 6,356-yard layout. Live scoring is available throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com.
