Spaulding Named Finalist For USA Softball Collegiate POY

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Junior left-hander Danielle Spaulding has been named one of 25 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award as announced by the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) on Wednesday. Spaulding leads the country in strikeouts per 7 IP and ranks in the top 25 in earned run average and wins with just a month left in the regular season. The 10 finalists will be announced on May 6 and then cut down to the final three on May 20 and will be announced prior to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The Top 25 list represents 17 schools and seven different NCAA Division I Conferences. The list is comprised of nine seniors, 12 juniors, three sophomores and one freshman. The 2009 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be chosen from the 25 finalists.
Just days before the start of post-season play, a list of 10 finalists will be named and released on May 6. The three finalists will be announced May 20th while the winner of the 2009 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award will be announced prior to the start of the 2009 NCAA Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
