CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Rising senior defender/midfielder Zach Loyd was voted the North Carolina men's soccer team captain for the 2009 season, head coach Elmar Bolowich announced Friday. Loyd started all 24 games a year ago and has made 49 starts over the past three seasons.
Loyd, a native of Verdigris, Okla., tallied four assists in 2008 and earned a spot of the NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team after assisting on Brian Shriver's game-winner in the national semifinal victory over No. 1 Wake Forest.
For his career, the versatile Loyd has tallied 18 points on five goals and eight assists. He has spent time at both outside back and in the midfield over the past three seasons.
