ACC MEN'S LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: FINAL: DUKE 15, UNC 13
UNC HEAD COACH Joe Breschi:
Opening thoughts:
"First of all, I'd like to congratulate Duke and their coach and players for winning the ACC Championship. I thought it was a terrific game. Outside of the third quarter, we were right with them. I think we had a tremendous amount of penalties in the third quarter and we were down most of the time. The difference in the game I think was the third quarter where they had so many more possessions than us. I'm also extremely proud of our guy's effort. We had guys play across the board who haven't gotten a lot of playing time and we utilized almost the entire 32-man roster for the tournament in the heat. We played our tails off. My hat goes off to our guys and the effort that we made in our quest for the championship. We
fell two goals short but as you can see our guy's play extremely hard and there's no
quitting, and I'm extremely proud of that effort. "
On Duke pressing Carolina's defense:
"They have a good defense and the strength for them I think was having the ball and not having to play defense. I think that wore us down a little bit. Our defense wore down a little bit in the third quarter because they were just playing so much. I think when we had the ball we had good opportunities for sure."
DUKE HEAD COACH JOHN DANOWSKI:
Opening thoughts:
"What a difficult tournament to win and to play in three days and we just think the world of Carolina. We've played them now seven times in the past three years and every game is a battle and every game is 60 minutes up and down. They've got great athletes and so much pride and it's just a neat thing for all of us to be part of. We are humbled to win and very proud to be part of the ACC tournament and the ACC championship game."
On Carolina's pace of game:
"They're so explosive and they were playing with so much confidence. They got out there early and their face off man is so dangerous that it's not surprising."
On second half:
"We cleared the ball much better in the second half, which gave us more possessions and more opportunities to score. I thought that was a big part of the game. We were much better in the second half. "
