CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - UNC lost the second half of a Virginia road trip to the top-ranked team in the nation on Sunday afternoon.
After defeating No. 26 Virginia Tech 4-3 on Friday, the Tar Heels lost 7-0 to first-ranked Virginia on Sunday.
UNC scored an upset in doubles play, as No. 27 Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman beat 14th-ranked Dominic Inglot and Michael Shabaz 8-5. The Cavaliers won the other two doubles matches to secure the team point.
Donato nearly engineered an upset in singles to go with his doubles victory, but came up just short in a third-set tiebreaker loss to Virginia's No. 1 player, Dominic Inglot. Brennan Boyajian played out a full third set after taking the second set from 73rd-ranked Houston Barrick but lost in a tiebreaker to close out the match.
The Tar Heels will stay on the road for their next match as they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to face No. 28 Wake Forest. The match will be played on Wednesday, April 8, at 3:00 p.m.
