GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Lisa Norris along with junior Danielle Spaulding earned the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Pitcher and Player of the Week honors as announced Monday by the league office. Norris picks up her third pitcher of the week award of the season as she shares the honor with Florida State's Sarah Hamilton. Spualding earns her first player of the week honor for 2009.
Spaulding, a junior from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., had an impressive week at the plate as well as in the circle to claim the Player of the Week award for the first time this season. The Tar Heel hit 5-for-9 (.556), belted a home run and scored two doubles in the weekend series against rival NC State. The first baseman batted in four and scored one of UNC's ten runs on the weekend. Spaulding, already a four-time Pitcher of the Week in 2009, struck out 13 in a complete game one-hit win over NC State on Saturday. She also went three innings, allowing a hit and a run to earn a no decision in the Tar Heel victory.
Norris is a senior from Snellville, Ga. The North Carolina pitcher threw 11 shutout innings last weekend against NC State. On Saturday, she fanned nine and allowed just one hit in the 4-0 win over the Wolfpack. On Sunday, Norris came in from the bullpen to throw four innings, allowing four hits and striking out four. Norris' 1.24 ERA ranks third in the league. She is also in a tie for first in saves (2) and ranks second in total strikeouts (190).
North Carolina visits East Carolina on Wednesday before hosting Virginia for a three-game series starting on Friday.
