COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships on Saturday, marking the first time a UNC pair has ever reached the semifinal round since 1973.
The duo defeated Texas A&M's Austin Krajicek and Conor Pollock 6-4, 6-4.
On Sunday, Donato and Fogleman will play Virginia's Dominic Inglot and Michael Shabaz for the fourth time this season at 2 p.m. Eastern Time Sunday afternoon. Live video of the match will be available through the Texas A&M athletics website. Donato and Fogleman won two of those three previous matches.
Fogleman and Donato have combined to become the first Tar Heels to reach the NCAA Championships in doubles since Rich McKee and Fred McNair reached the NCAA championship match in 1973 before falling in the final.
"Clay (Donato) returned phenomenally and I returned pretty well, too," said Taylor Fogleman. "Conor Pollock has a really big serve and Austin Krajicek mixes it up so well. We definitely had to be on our toes. That's something we really worked on yesterday in preparation for today.
"It definitely paid off. They served tremendously. I've played doubles against Conor once or twice and I know the caliber of doubles and all-around player that he is. It's a dream come true to advance to the NCAA semifinals. It's my senior year, you can only hope to dream for something like this. We're just taking it one step at a time."
Fogleman's third straight win of the tournament also marked his career 100th doubles victory.
