Butler Joins Tar Heels For 2010 Campaign

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina softball coaching staff has announced the addition of Chelsey Butler to the squad for the 2009 season. Butler an outfielder from Randleman, N.C. where she led the team in stolen bases as a four-year varsity performer. A switch hitting outfielder, Butler earned all-county and all-conference honors as a sophomore. Butler will be joined in Chapel Hill in the fall by The six signings for 2010 include Haleigh Dickey, Elisha Elliot, Tisha Mahon, Megan Morrison, Cara Vitale and Paige Williams.
"Chelsey is an outfielder who brings a lot of versatility on defense, is very athletic and will provide speed on the bases," head coach Donna J. Papa said. "She comes from an outstanding family and is exactly what a Carolina student-athlete embodies."
utler was also a four-year varsity performer on the track where earned all-county and all-conference honors as a sprinter. She was named the team's most valuable sprinter all four years of competition. In her club ball action, Butler played for the Knockouts who made it to the World Series as a 16-under group.
The addition of Butler brings the 2009 class to seven as she joins Haleigh Dickey (3B; Woodstock, Ga.), Elisah Elliot (SS; Clemmons, N.C.), Tisha Mahon (OF; Lexington, N.C.), Megan Morrison (C/1B/OF; Tucson, Ariz.), Cara Vitale (1B, Wall, N.J.) and Paige Williams (SS, Newport, N.C.). Carolina loses the services of five players in seniors Whitney Allen, Breanna Brown, Alyssa Francona, Lisa Norris and Emily Troup.
