OMAHA, Neb. - After helping lead his club to a fourth straight College World Series appearance, North Carolina senior right-hander Adam Warren was honored Friday with one of five spots on the All-Senior All-America Team, which is determined by the voting for the Lowe's Senior Class Award. Florida's Brandon McArthur was the 2009 Lowe's Senior Class Award recipient.
Warren, who was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team selection this season, is a three-time academic all-district pick. He graduated in May with a degree in business administration from Carolina and is also a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
A second-team All-ACC pick and a fourth-round draft choice of the New York Yankees earlier this month, Warren wrapped up his final campaign with a win over Southern Miss in the College World Series Tuesday to improve to 3-0 in the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The victory was his sixth in postseason play to share the school record with teammate Alex White.
The New Bern, N.C., native went 10-2 with a 3.31 ERA and a career-best 103 strikeouts over 98 innings. He held the opposition to a .233 average in 17 appearances.
For his four-year career, Warren posted a 32-4 record to rank second in school history in victories, and his .889 career winning percentage shares the school record with Scott Bankhead. He is a part of the only four-year class in ACC history to reach the College World Series four straight years and the classes' 213 wins over the last four years lead the country.
The award, chosen by a nationwide vote of coaches, media and fans, is presented annually to college baseball's outstanding NCAA Division I senior student-athlete. The announcement and trophy presentation were made today by Lowe's, an Official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, during the 2009 NCAA Men's College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award has grown into the nation's premier tribute to college seniors. The award identifies personal qualities that define a complete student-athlete, with criteria including excellence in the classroom, character and community, as well as competition on the field.
