GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina placed three players - right-handers Colin Bates and Adam Warren and second baseman Levi Michael - on the All-ACC Academic Baseball Team, which was announced Thursday. Bates and Warren are repeat selections from the 2008 squad.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained at least a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Bates, who was 4-4 with six saves and a 3.15 ERA over 34 appearances out of the UNC bullpen as a redshirt sophomore, is a business administration major. He was selected in the 37th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by Oakland.
Michael, who has not declared a major, was a freshman All-America selection after batting .290 with 13 home runs and 57 RBI in 65 starts at second base. He graduated early from North Davidson High School and enrolled at Carolina in January 2009.
Warren, who was a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and an Academic All-America pick, graduated in May with a degree in business administration. A fourth-round draft selection, Warren is 4-1 with a 0.82 ERA in seven starts for the New York Yankees' Staten Island Class A club. A second-team All-ACC pick this season, Warren went 10-2 with a 3.31 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 17 appearances. He is second in school history with 32 victories.
