UNC Caps Off Successful Preseason Campaign In Final Two Tournaments

CHAPEL HILL - While members of the UNC men's tennis team spent the final preseason weekend divided between the East and West Coasts, they were unified by successful results.
Clay Donato and Stefan Hardy were the first to take the court for the Tar Heels in the Archon National Collegiate Tennis Classic, a three-day tournament in Palm Springs, Calif. that began on Friday, Jan. 15. Donato and Hardy had an excellent showing in the doubles portion of the tournament, reaching the finals after three wins.
ack in Durham, the remaining Tar Heels began play in the Duke Invitational, a tournament which also lasted three days, on Saturday, Jan. 16. Multiple Tar Heels had outstanding results in the tournament, including:
- Brennan Boyajian: notched five total victories, was undefeated in doubles and won two singles matches
- Andrew Crone and Kyle Baker: won four total matches, two apiece in singles and doubles
- Luke Mojica and William Parker: recorded four total victories and went undefeated in singles
- Cameron Ahari, Jose Hernandez, Alex Rafiee: notched three total wins
"Our young guys have certainly made a lot of improvement from where they were last year after the Duke Invitational, but we still have a long way to go," said head coach Sam Paul. "We learned what we need to work on and we have a lot of work to do."
UNC is set to kick off its regular season on Sunday, Jan. 24, with a doubleheader that begins at 1:00 p.m. against Presbyterian.

First round: defeated Luis Rattenhuber and Giovanni Vaglietti (SDSU) 9-8(6)
Quarterfinals: defeated Matt Brewer and Matteo Fago (Tenn.) 8-4
Semifinals: defeated Achim Ceban and Juan Gomez (SDSU) 8-2
Finals: lost to Amit Inbar and Nick Meister (UCLA) 8-6
