North Carolina Postgame Notes – UNC vs. William & Mary • October 30, 2010
• Tailback Johnny White rushed for a career-best 164 yards on 29 carries (also a career high), including a 67-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, his second long scoring run in as many games. His 76-yard touchdown run in the second quarter against Miami was the longest run of the season for Carolina and tied four others for the 20th-longest run in school history.
• White's 164 yards equal the most by a Tar Heel in Butch Davis' four years as head coach. Ryan Houston also rushed for 164 against Duke in 2009.
• White now has 713 rushing yards on 123 carries in eight games, the same number of yards that Houston led the Tar Heels with (on 191 carries) for the entire 2009 season.
• Carolina trailed William and Mary, 17-7, after three quarters. This was the second time this season the Tar Heels rallied from a 10-point deficit to win. Carolina trailed Rutgers, 10-0, and won 17-13 on September 25, 2010.
• This was the first time UNC trailed by 10 points in the fourth quarter and came back to win since 2009 when Connecticut held a 10-0 lead but the Tar Heels won, 12-10.
• Carolina converted 9 of 16 third down chances (56.3 percent) and 2 of 3 times on fourth down. For the season, the Tar Heels have now converted 9 of 15 fourth-down opportunities (60 percent). The Tar Heels converted a pair of fourth-down chances on their touchdown drive in the fourth quarter that cut William and Mary's lead to 17-14 (a 4th-and-6 from the W&M 46 on a 13-yard pass to Todd Harrelson and a 4th-and-1 from the 14 on a 6-yard run by Johnny White).
• Quarterback T.J. Yates finished 23 of 33 for 238 yards, one touchdown and a rushing touchdown. The senior quarterback has now completed 669 of 1091 attempts for 7832 yards and 50 touchdowns in his career, good for 17th place in ACC history in passing yards. Yates is second in UNC history in attempts, completions, yards and TDs.
• Yates' 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was the sixth rushing TD of his career and his second of the season. He had a 1-yard scoring run against Georgia Tech earlier this year.
• Wide receiver Dwight Jones finished with a career-high nine catches for 107 yards, his second career 100-yard game. Jones has 20 receptions in the last three games. He had a career-high 198 receiving yards, including 119 in the first quarter, on seven catches at Virginia, had four catches at Miami and nine today.
• H-back Ryan Taylor finished with three catches for 19 yards and a 3-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, his second of the season and the second of his career.
• Tight end Ed Barham made three catches for 38 yards, both career highs. His 23-yard reception in the third quarter was a career long.
• Place kicker Casey Barth converted all three extra point attempts on the day, giving him 59 consecutive made PATs.
• Carolina held the Tribe to 51 rushing yards, the lowest by an opponent this year (previous low 64 by East Carolina).
• In 2004, William and Mary led UNC, 31-28, after three quarters before the Tar Heels rallied to win, 49-38.
• The Tar Heels lead the all-time series with William & Mary, 13-0-2.
