CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -
The University of North Carolina hosted its final home meet for the 2010 indoor season on Friday and the Tar Heels who competed made sure to finish strong on their home turf. Carolina captured 10 individual wins, including two taken by sophomore Tyler Ford in the 60 and long jump.
Ford leaped 19-3 1/2 in the long jump and posted a 7.55 in the 60. She was joined by Malai Walker and Vanneisha Ivy in the finals, running 7.64 and 7.66, respectively to take second and fourth places, respectively. Other Carolina competitors in the 60 included Jacinda Evans (7.83), Zoey Russell (7.87) and Chrishawn Williams (7.88).
Ford also competed in the 200 where she placed eighth in 25.81. She was joined in the 200 by five other Tar Heels, dominating the top-eight: winner Elizabeth Mott (24.82), third place Walker (25.08), fourth Ivy (25.19), fifth Evans (25.46) and sixth Russell (25.49).
The 400 also saw a one-two Tar Heel finish with Christine Johnson taking first in 56.87 and LaToya James in second with 57.89. In the women's 600, Tasha Stanley took first place in 1:35.37.
The 800 took another one-two Carolina performance but also added a fourth-place nod and all by freshmen: Lea Anna Godwin ran 2:17.04 to take first, followed by Marisa Dobbins in second at 2:18.18 and Michelle Britto in fourth at 2:18.93. Nicole Suarez placed highest for the Tar Heels in the 3000 at fifth in 10:28.53. Courtney Whittington (10:37.16), Michelle Lutz (10:48.30) and Alexa Gellman (10:53.02) also competed in the 3000.
Two relays competed in the 4x400 for the Carolina women, one taking first place in 3:48.13 and the other taking fourth in 3:59.63. In field events, Patience Coleman continued her streak of first place finishes in Chapel Hill at a height of 5-10. Coleman was joined by Ariel Roberts, who tied for second at 5-6, and Briana Hudson, who took fifth at 5-4 1/4, in the event.
Besides Ford's first place finish in the long jump, Evans took fifth with her jump of 18-11 1/4, followed by Williams in sixth at 18-5. Danielle Brock and Alexandra Coppadge also competed reaching 17-6 and 17-2 1/4, respectively.
Michelle Newman captured another first place finish on the season in the triple jump, this week leaping 40-11 3/4. Hudson (39-4 1/2) and Williams (35-10) also competed in the triple jump. In pole vault, Abby Kimball took third place reaching a height of 11-9 3/4, her high for the season. Ashley Wyatt also competed in pole vault where she reached 10-8.
Brock was the only Tar Heel entered in the 60-meter hurdles and the shot put. She took second in the final for the 60 hurdles after a strong showing in the preliminaries, but her throw of 38-7 3/4 was not enough for high placement in the shot put.
The men's side saw only two first-place finishes for the one-day meet: Parker Smith in the pole vault and Zach Brown in the 60 meter dash. Smith reached his highest vault of the season at 16-8 3/4 to win the event. He was joined in the pole vault by Chadd Pierce (14-9).
Brown won the 60 in 6.76, followed by Kelvin Hardesty in second place at 6.89. Kenneth Andoll also ran the 60, in 7.33, but he did not qualify for the final race.

Charles Cox took third behind Parros in the 200 at 22.02, followed by Brown in sixth at 22.36 and Hunter Furr in seventh at 22.47. Ian Williamson also ran in the 200, finishing with a 22.84.

Matthew Villemain was the only Tar Heel to compete in the men's long jump reaching a length of 19-7 1/2. Villemain also competed in the 60 hurdles where he was one place away from making the finals. Villemain hurdled 8.73 while fellow multi Pierce finished the same event at 8.87.

The next action the Tar Heels will see is on Friday, February 19th and Saturday, February 20th in Blacksburg, Va., in preparation for the ACC Championships which will be held February 25-27th at Virginia Tech.
