Carolina Golfers Sixth At LSU Tiger/Wave Classic

NEW ORLEANS, LA. -
The North Carolina women's golf team stands in sixth place after the second rounds of the LSU Tiger/Wave Classic. The Tar Heels carded a 312 for a two-day 614 total. Sarah Thead led the Tar Heel effort on Saturday firing an even par 72 and is tied for fifth place in the individual race.
Thead, a junior from Poway, Calif., stands at four-over-par 148 after a round that featured four birdies and four bogies. Sophomore Catherine O'Donnell is two strokes back tied for 10th with a 150 total. O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., shot a 78 in the second round. Senior Kate Thomas and freshman Courtney Gunter both have a 158 total and are tied for 50th place. Thomas, from Murwillumbah, Australia, carded a 78 on Saturday while Gunter, from Matthews, N.C., shot 84. Jordan Allyne, a junior from Bellevue, Wash., shot an 85 for a 168 total and is tied for 109th. Junior Margaret Pentrack, from Pittsburgh, Pa., is playing as an individual, has a 167 total and is tied for 105th after posting an 81 in the second round. Michelle Ahn, a freshman from Chapel Hill, withdrew from the first two rounds due to a sprained ankle. She is also an individual participant.
Second-ranked Auburn jumped into a tie for the lead after being tied for eighth place after the first round. The Tigers fired an eight-over-par 296 and are tied with LSU at 601. TCU is two strokes back in third place at 603 while Alabama is fourth at 608, Virginia is fifth at 611 and Carolina is sixth at 614.
Cydney Clanton of Auburn and Megan McGhrystal of LSU are tied for the individual lead at even par 144. Clanton fired a one-under 71 in the second round while McChrystal carded even par 72. Virginia's Calle Nielson and LSU's Tessa Teachman are tied for third place at one-over 145. Three players are tied for fifth place at 148 - Carolina's Thead, Notre Dame's Becca Huffer and Alabama's Camilla Lennarth.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at English Turn Golf and Country Club which features a par 72, 6,132-yard layout.
