Tar Heels Rout NCCU In Regular Season Finale

CHAPEL HILL --- Chay Shegog tied a career high with 17 points to lead five Tar Heels in double figures as North Carolina closed its home schedule with an 88-66 win over North Carolina Central Sunday afternoon at Carmichael Arena. Laura Broomfield added 12 points and 14 rebounds for UNC, which will now await its postseason fate after finishing the regular season with a 19-11 record that included wins over top-25 clubs Duke and St. John's and a total of 10 wins over the RPI top 100.
Every healthy player scored for the Tar Heels, as Cetera DeGraffenreid, Italee Lucas and Trinity Bursey joined Shegog and Broomfield as double-digit scorers. DeGraffenreid finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while Lucas and Bursey added 10.
Carolina shot 48.7 percent for the game, including a sizzling 19 of 37 in the second half. Shegog was accurate throughout the day, finishing 8 of 12 from the field to go with six boards, two assists and two steals in 26 minutes.
She'la White and Cierra Robertson-Warren came off the bench to add eight points each, with Robertson-Warren scoring on back-to-back possessions during a 15-1 run in the second half that put the game out of reach for the Lady Eagles.
Joanna Miller led NCCU (11-18) with 21 points, but the freshman standout was held to just four points after halftime.
Carolina forced 26 turnovers that translated to 26 points as eight different Tar Heels registered at least one steal.
