CHAPEL HILL --- Carolina Softball has joined efforts with the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and will host its second annual "Strike Out Cancer" event on Sunday, March 28th at 1 p.m. vs. NC State. The Tar Heels and Wolfpack will both sport teal shirts in support of ovarian cancer research. Former Tar Heel Jamie (Shaver) Mayberry, who has battled ovarian cancer, will be throwing out the first pitch. Shaver played for the head coach Donna J. Papa and the Tar Heels from 1993-96 where she starred as the Tar Heels' second baseman.
"I am truly honored and appreciative for this opportunity that Coach Papa and the University have given me to bring Ovarian Cancer awareness to the forefront. The four years under Coach Papa were very instrumental in preparing me for the challenges I have faced. I look forward to sharing this knowledge with the team and whoever else will listen," Jamie Mayberry said.
Inflatable games and free cotton candy will be open for everyone on the upper field beginning at 12 p.m. The UNC Softball Camp will be selling t-shirts for $20.00. All profits will be donated to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center benefitting research for ovarian cancer.
Admission is FREE!!! Parking is free and concessions will be available.
