CHAPEL HILL, N.C --- North Carolina Softball senior Danielle Spaulding was selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's All-Region Team on Thursday. The pitcher/first baseman earned First Team All-Southeast Region in the Utility/Pitcher spot.
The senior from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. received the Atlantic Coast Conference's Pitcher of the Year Award last week. In the circle this season, Spaulding has compiled a 1.32 ERA and 19-5 record. Last season's reigning strikeout per seven innings ratio (14.7k/7 innings) has punched out 294 batters in 179.2 innings pitched this season.
Spaulding has been equally impressive with the bat this season, leading the Tar Heels in batting average, RBIs, and on-base percentage.
The 2010 season is the third consecutive year Spaulding has made the first team All-Southeast Region.
The ACC placed 12 student-athletes on the All-Region list.
Spaulding and the Tar Heels next take the field tomorrow at 5:30 (EDT) against Nebraska in the NCAA Tournament's Seattle, Wash. regional. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
