North Carolina Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Jenny Levy
(Opening Remarks)
(You've played Maryland twice and Northwestern twice ... What are your feelings about Sunday's game?)
"It'll be a great game. The game comes down to draws in the end. Both teams are playing well. But, it comes down to possession and it should be a great match-up."
(Did you try anything different on the draws in the second half? Or change anything around? Or make adjustments on the circle?)
"We tried everything. We zoned it. We tried different players draw it. We moved people around. The ball got in her [Danielle's] stick. She drawed it to herself. When it went to the outside, I thought we had a good 50-50. Trying to get the ball on the ground but it's hard to get the ball on the ground when she's 6-2 and she grabs it with this stick that seemed to be endless deep hole and we just couldn't get out of her stick. So credit to Danielle, she played a great game tonight."
Head Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller
(Opening Remarks)
"Obviously I'm very excited to have the opportunity to play in a championship game again this year and I thought it was a hard fought game on both sides. [It is] very exciting to be part of a game like that and I was proud of the way my girls played, the focus that they brought, the patience and how they were really able to convert and stay calm in the pressure situations."
(On facing a former teammate in Cathy Reese for the national championship...)
"I have a lot of respect for Cathy [Reese]. She was a freshman when I was a senior at Maryland. She was a tremendous player, always stepped up under pressure and she's done a great job there and really gotten the program to the highest level and I have a lot of respect for her, so it's always exciting to play another top program and to have a battle on the field."
(What makes Maryland a good opponent in the title game?)
"They're extremely talented top to bottom. They've got great players all around and they've got some experience; they're battle-tested. They lost last year in the Final Four and I know from a player how that hurts and you want to come back and you're much more motivated and focused and I think they've shown that this year in winning the ACC Championship and doing a great job to get to this championship game as well. Both of our teams are athletic, have good draw people, and some really exciting players offensively, so I think it's going to be a great match-up."
(More on Maryland...)
"They have really, really athletic midfielders and their defenders have done a great job for them, but I know their goalie struggled a little bit earlier in the season. But, she's done a great job as of late and I think they play good team defense. They play together and I watched a little bit tonight. I thought they did a great job stifling some of the top players on Syracuse and just played together. They also use their ride as a defensive weapon too. I think they're good all around.
