Carolina's O'Donnell Selected to Women's Golf All-ACC Team

University of North Carolina golfer Catherine O'Donnell has been named to the 2010 All-Atlantic Coast Conference women's golf team as selected by a vote of the league's nine head coaches.
O'Donnell, a sophomore from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., has carded seven top 25 and four top 10 finishes this year. She tied for third place at the Tri Match at Ironwood and at the NGCA Collegiate Match Play Championship. O'Donnell's other top 10 finishes came at the Duramed Cougar Classic where she tied for seventh place and the Tar Heel Invitational where she tied for ninth. She also tied for 14th place at the Bryan National Collegiate, placed 19th at The Challenge at Kinderlou Forest and tied for 25th at the ACC Championsips played at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.
O'Donnell leads the team with a 74.46 stroke average for the year. She has fired five even par rounds, three under-par rounds with one in the 60s. Her low round was a three-under-par 69 in the first round of the Duramed Cougar Classic. O'Donnell was selected the ACC Freshman of the Year last year in addition to being chosen to the all-conference team. She also picked up her first collegiate win in the fall of 2008 when she tied for first place at the Tar Heel Invitational.
O'Donnell was joined on the 12-person all-conference squad by Eunice Yim of Boston College, Lindy Duncan and Alison Whitaker of Duke, Lacy Agnew and Macarena Silva of Florida State, Jessica Hollandsworth and Christine Shimel of Maryland, Brittany Altomare and Calle Nielson of Virginia, and ACC individual medalist Michelle Shin and Cheyenne Woods of Wake Forest.
Duncan, a freshman from Duke, was selected both the ACC Player of the Year and the ACC Freshman of the Year. Dianne Dailey of Wake Forest was selected the ACC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career and second consecutive year after leading the Demon Deacons to the ACC Championship for the second consecutive year.
The Tar Heels return to action this week as they play in the NCAA East Regional this Thursday through Saturday at Ironwood Country Club in Greenville, N.C.
