Tailgate Golf Tournament & BBQ Raises Funds For SECU Family House

Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- More than $150,000 was raised to benefit the SECU Family House during the two-day Butch & Tammy Davis Tailgate Golf Tournament and Barbeque, held the last week of April, 2010.
Approximately 320 people attended the Barbeque and auction on Thursday (April 29) evening at the SECU Family House, located on Mason Farm Road in Chapel Hill. Highlights of the auction included Butch Davis' Louis Moinet Chronograph for $5,000, two Football Experience Packages (4 tickets to NCSU vs. UNC w/pregame sideline passes & tour of Kenan Stadium), $6,100 ($3,100 and $3,000); Two week-long stays at a Boca Raton Condo: $4,700 ($2,300 and $2,400) (Donor: Frank & Shelayne Sutton) and an autographed 1957 NCAA Championship Men's Basketball for $2,000.
Sponsors and patrons of the event donated $93,000 and the golf tournament raised more than $17,000.
The foursome of Gary Sobba, Woody Durham, Pete Finger, Andrew Calder took home first place honors, followed by the second place grouping of Barb White, Pete Seagroves, Carin Krasno and Butch Minor. Mike Riggsbee, Ryan Baucom, Bill Tate, Drew Davis finished third. Neal Harrell won the putting contest.

SECU (State Employees' Credit Union) Family House is a compassionate, community response to the need for affordable, convenient, and supportive housing for adult critical care patients--and their caregivers--who are being treated at UNC. We offer hospitality, respite, hope and comfort to critical care adult patients receiving treatment for bone marrow and organ transplant, cancer, burn, trauma and eating disorders.
In 2009 alone, SECU Family House and its volunteers housed, fed, and embraced more than 1,322 patients and/or patient families--from 91 of North Carolina's 100 counties, 32 other states, the District of Columbia, and 3 other countries. Since opening March 31, 2008, SECU Family House has provided 37,400 guest stays.
We work in close coordination with the medical staff at UNC Hospitals to ensure that critical care patients and families have easy access to peaceful, home-like surroundings in which to rest, heal, recuperate, and gather strength for an arduous treatment regimen.
