CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- Jacob Stallings notched three hits and a grand slam home run to propel No. 24 North Carolina over Wake Forest 8-4 Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels won their seventh straight game to improve to 31-17 overall and 11-13 in league play. Michael Dimock suffered the loss as Wake Forest falls to 12-35 on the year and 4-20 in the ACC.
Johnson (5-3) pitched seven innings allowing just two runs on six hits. The junior struck out a season-high eight batters. Michael Morin allowed two runs on one hit in two innings of work.
"We seem to be playing with confidence lately and are playing well," said head coach Mike Fox. "There is a sense of calmness in our dugout and I like that about our team."
Ben Bunting added three hits, including his first home run of the year, to pace the Carolina attack. Levi Michael posted two hits to extend his hitting streak to a career-best and team season-high 15 games.
Stallings belted just his second career home run with his grand slam in the fifth inning. The sophomore registered six hits and six RBI in the series sweep against Wake Forest.
The Tar Heels pushed in front 1-0 in the bottom of the second. Tommy Coyle swiped two bases in a row and later scored after an errant throw from the Demon Deacon catcher allowed the freshman to cross the plate.
A Brian Goodwin RBI single manufactured another Tar Heel run in the third. Johnson retired seven in a row at one point, as Carolina owned a 2-0 after four frames.
A two-run home run off the bat of Pat Blair knotted the score at two in the top of the fifth. The tie was short-lived as Carolina manufactured six runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame.
Bunting belted a solo home run and Stallings laced a line drive grand slam to cap the huge inning for the Tar Heels. Carolina led 8-2 after the first five frames.
Wake Forest chipped away at the Carolina lead with a two-run home run off the bat off Matt Conway. All of the Demon Deacons runs were via the home run as Wake trailed 8-4 after eight frames.
Morin closed out the ninth inning retiring the Demon Deacons in order to complete the sweep.
Carolina will return to action Wednesday hosting College of Charleston at Boshamer Stadium.
