- North Carolina's 17-13 win over Rutgers marked the first time since the win over Connecticut in 2009 that the Tar Heels rallied from a halftime deficit to win.
- Carolina allowed just 244 yards of total offense, including just 98 yards after the half.
- Quarterback T.J. Yates completed 22 of 30 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown. It was the 18th career 200-yard passing game for Yates.
- Yates' streak of pass attempts without an interception ended at 117 when his third-quarter pass went off the hands of Jheranie Boyd and was intercepted by Rutgers' Khaseem Greene. It was Yates' first interception of the season and first since the Meineke Car Care Bowl game vs. Pittsburgh.
- Junior wide receiver Dwight Jones had his best game as a Tar Heel with four receptions for 43 yards, both career highs.
- Senior tight end Ryan Taylor scored his first career touchdown on a 6-yard dart from Yates in the third quarter. Taylor, who has played both offense and defense in his career, atoned for a fumble earlier in the game which Rutgers converted into a score.
- Senior tailback Johnny White scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter to make the score 10-7. It was the second straight game White has scored a rushing touchdown. He also scored last week vs. Georgia Tech. He entered the season with just one rushing score.
- Linebacker Bruce Carter had a 55-yard interception return in the second quarter. It is his third career interception return and second vs Rutgers. He had a 66-yard INT return for a touchdown in Piscataway in 2008. He now has 162 career interception return yards.
- Junior defensive tackle Jordan Nix made his first career start Saturday vs. Rutgers. He becomes the 46th different current Tar Heel to start at least one game and the 13th first-time starter this season.
- Junior safety Matt Merletti picked off a Tom Savage pass late in the fourth quarter for his first career interception. Merletti also registered a career-best six tackles.
- Despite leaving the game early due to injury, linebacker Quan Sturdivant posted a game-high 12 tackles, one shy of his career high.
