CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina knew it would be without its usual front line heading into Friday night's game with Virginia.
With starting forward Jessica Breland out following arthroscopic knee surgery last week and starting center Chay Shegog sidelined following a concussion on Sunday at Maryland, their teammates definitely needed to step up.
That wasn't a problem.
She'la White led four players in double figures with 14 points as the Tar Heels overcame a slow start for a comfortable 64-52 win over the Cavaliers.
Laura Broomfield added 13 points and 10 rebounds for North Carolina.
Tierra Ruffin-Pratt had 13 rebounds and Krista Gross 10 for UNC (18-3, 4-2 ACC), which outrebounded Virginia 52-34.
"I thought we played really hard tonight," UNC coach Sylvia Hatchell said. "We knew we were a little bit short on post players. ... Rebounding really made a difference out there. It was a great team effort."
Paulisha Kellum had 15 points for UVa (12-10, 1-5).
UNC, which had lost three of its previous six games, went on a 13-2 run late in the first half to take a 35-26 lead into halftime.
