Final Score: Miami 30, North Carolina 24
• The Tar Heels lost at home today for the first time in five games this season. It was the first time Miami had ever beaten the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.
• Carolina still maintains an 8-7 edge in the series against Miami despite the loss today. The teams have split eight games since Miami joined the ACC.
• Redshirt freshman tailback Giovani Bernard rushed a season-high 27 times for 110 yards, his fifth consecutive 100-yard rushing game. That is the longest streak by a Tar Heel since Ethan Horton did it in five consecutive games in 1984.
Bernard's five 100-yard games equal the second-most in a season by a Tar Heel freshman. Amos Lawrence (six in 1977) and Leon Johnson (five in 1993) are the other UNC freshmen with at least five 100-yard rushing games.

For the season, Bernard has rushed 130 times for 767 yards and nine touchdowns, an average of 5.9 yards per carry and 110 yards per game. His nine touchdowns are the most by a Tar Heel since Ryan Houston scored nine times in 2009.
• Bernard also caught a season-high nine passes for 72 yards against Miami. His previous highs were five catches against both Virginia and Georgia Tech.
• Senior wide receiver Dwight Jones caught nine passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. Jones has eight touchdown catches this season, four more than he had entering 2011 and tied for the third most in a year school history. The Burlington, N.C., native has scored a touchdown in six of UNC's first seven games this year.
• Jones has 12 career touchdown receptions, which ties him for ninth on the all-time list at Carolina. Jimmy Jerome (1972-74) and Eric Streater (1983-86) also had 12 career touchdown catches.
• Sophomore quarterback Bryn Renner set career highs for pass completions, attempts and yards today as he completed 29 of 37 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns. He was 20 for 22 for 214 yards in the second half.
Renner is 128 for 170 for 1,593 yards and 14 touchdowns for the season. He has completed 75.3 percent of his passes in the first seven games.
• Miami scored touchdowns on its opening two drives of the game, the first touchdowns scored by a Carolina opponent in the first quarter this season. For the season, the Tar Heels have outscored opponents 42-20 in the opening stanza.
• North Carolina trailed 27-10 at halftime, the Tar Heels' largest halftime deficit since trailing 30-10 to LSU in the 2010 opener.
• Wide receiver Erik Highsmith caught a season-high five passes for 74 yards.
• Redshirt freshman wide receiver Reggie Wilkins had his first two career receptions, including a 20-yard touchdown grab with 46 seconds to play in the fourth quarter.
• Redshirt freshman place-kicker Thomas Moore made his first career field goal, a 20-yarder in the second quarter. Moore also made three of his PAT attempts and is now 14 for 14 on the season. Carolina has made 96 consecutive PATs, including a school-record 82 in a row by injured senior Casey Barth.
• Miami built a 17-0 lead and had the ball for 10 minutes and eight seconds in the first quarter. The Hurricanes ran 24 plays and gained 149 yards in the opening quarter. However, over the final three quarters, Miami had the ball for 16:20, ran 33 plays and gained 162 yards.
• Miami did not punt in the first half, but the Tar Heel defense forced the Canes to punt on their first five possessions in the second half.
• Miami had 13 first downs in the first half and two in the second half. The Tar Heels had 12 in the first two quarters and finished with 25. The Canes threw for 233 yards in the first half and 34 in the second half. Miami had just 14 rushing yards in the second half and 44 total for the afternoon.
• Carolina ran a season-high 80 plays from scrimmage (previous was 64 vs. Virginia).
• Carolina gained 429 total yards, the fifth time in seven games this year that UNC gained 400 or more yards. It was the season high for Carolina in an ACC game this year.
