CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The trio of Matt Hedges, Enzo Martinez and Billy Schuler picked up first team All-America honors once again Monday as all three were named to the College Soccer News All-America squad. Less than a week ago all three were named to the NSCAA All-America team.
Hedges turned in a stellar campaign for the Tar Heels en route to the national championship as he anchored a defense that allowed the 11th fewest goals in the country this season. The Carmel, Ind., native raised his play to another level at the College Cup as he helped the Tar Heels post their 12th shutout of the year by keeping Charlotte off the board in the final.
Martinez earned third team NSCAA All-America honors a year ago and became a first teamer this season after scoring nine goals and distributing 11 assists. The Rock Hill, S.C., native earned College Cup All-Tournament plaudits for his play during Carolina's run to the title.
Schuler scored the second equalizing goal for the Tar Heels in the semifinal draw against UCLA which gave the redshirt junior his 16th goal of the season which will go down as a tie for the fourth most in school history. The Allentown, N.J., native earned All-America honors as a sophomore in 2009 before missing the 2010 season due to injury and returned in a big way as he finished among the top 10 scorers in the country.
