No. 25 Tar Heels Shut Down Jacksonville 2-1

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. --- Freshman Lori Spingola allowed just one run over a complete game effort to lead No. 25 North Carolina over Jacksonville 2-1 Saturday evening at Jacksonville University Softball Complex. Junior Ally Blake hit a solo home run as UNC improves to 3-1 on the year.
Spingola (3-1) allowed one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work. The Atlanta, Ga., product issued just one walk and five base runners.
Freshman Jordan Scarboro went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and one run scored to lead Carolina offensivley. Senior Brittany McKinney notched a double and RBI, while Blake ripped her second home run of the young season.
North Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the second after a solo home run off the bat of Blake. The Concord, N.C., native cranked her second home run of the day after belting a solo shot in UNC's win over Buffalo earlier Saturday afternoon.
Spingola was sharp in the first three frames allowing just two hits. The Atlanta, Ga., native struck out the side in the second inning to preserve the Carolina lead.
UNC got back on the board in the fourth scoring one run on two hits. Back-to-back doubles off the bats of Scarboro and McKinney gave the Tar Heels a 2-0 lead after four frames.
The Dolphins threatened in the fifth cutting the Carolina in half at 2-1. Kayla Ouellet ripped a double off the third base bag to score Annike Don, but UNC escaped the inning as left fielder Kelli Wheeler threw out Jacey Warner attempting to advance to third.
Spingola closed out the seventh inning with a pair of strikeouts to give Carolina their third straight victory.
UNC returns to action Sunday challenging Bethune Cookman at approximately 11:15 a.m. from Jacksonville University Softball Complex.
