Tar Heels Travel To UNC Wilmington Wednesday

CHAPEL HILL --- Just two days before the 2011 home opener, North Carolina travels to UNC Wilmington Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. from Boseman Field in Wilmington, N.C. The Tar Heels will then host the 2011 Carolina Classic Friday to Sunday at Anderson Stadium in Chapel Hill.

UNC WILMINGTON SERIES NOTES
• North Carolina and UNC Wilmington have met 42 times on the diamond, dating to 1979.
• Carolina defeated the Seahawks 5-0 in 2010. Haleigh Dickey set a new school record cranking three home runs in that contest. Kelli Wheeler added a home run as UNC belted four in the win.
NOTING THE TAR HEELS
• Carolina features a balanced attack with a .281 team batting average, 4.40 staff ERA and a .956 fielding percentage. The Tar Heels will look to rebound Wednesday after dropping three decisions at No. 5 Florida last weekend.
• Carolina's pitching staff features three freshmen- Lori Spingola, Sara Buchholz and Ashley Bone. The freshmen are growing up fast as Spingola headlines the the trio with a 4-3 record, 3.42 ERA and 33 strikeouts in just over her first 30 plus collegiate innings.
• Carolina will play their first games in the Old North State this week, after playing their first eight in Florida. UNC will host the Carolina Classic for their home opener Feb. 25-27 before returning to the Sunshine State from March 4-8.
NOTING UNC WILMINGTON
• The Seahawks are 0-5 and have dropped three of their first five decisions by two runs or less.
• UNC Wilmington has not played since Feb. 16 as Wednesday's twinbill with the Tar Heels will serve as the Seahawks 2011 home opener.
• At the plate, Nicole Tuttle leads the Seahawks with a .417 batting average and .583 slugging percentage. In the circle, UNC Wilmington has struggled allowing 31 runs in their first five games.
