Tar Heels Set To Open ACC Play

UNC vs. Wake Forest Game Notes
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina will open Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend as the Tar Heels head to Winston-Salem, N.C. for a three-game set against Wake Forest. Carolina enters riding a seven-game winning streak, meanwhile the Demon Deacons are streaking in the oppositie direction having lost four straight. Carolina will face a bevy of lefties throughout the year and it will be no different this weekend as Wake Forest is set to throw LHP Austin Sadler on Friday, LHP Tim Cooney on Saturday and a pitcher to be determined Sunday.

Carolina moved up in every poll released on Monday and top out at No. 14 in the NCBWA poll. Baseball America has the Tar Heels at No. 15, while Perfect Game, Collegiate Baseball and the USA Today/Coaches Poll has Carolina at No. 16.
Wake Forest is unranked.
North Carolina-Wake Forest Series
The Tar Heels and Demon Deacons have met 272 previous times with Carolina holding a 151-118-3 advantage. Carolina swept its season series with Wake Forest last year in Boshamer Stadium by scores of 18-5, 7-2 and 8-4.
Scouting The Demon Deacons
The Demon Deacons enter with a 4-8 record on the year, having lost four straight.
Reigning ACC Player of the Week Matt Conway leads Wake Forest with a .349 average but is the only hitter on the squad with an average above .300.
Conway has also driven in a team-high 17 runs on the season.
The Demon Deacons rank 12th in the ACC with a .228 average on the year and are 11th in team ERA with a 5.14 mark.
Saturday starter Tim Cooney leads the pitching staff with a 1-1 record and a 2.25 ERA in three starts.
Michael Dimock and John McLeod are the top options out of the bullpen having made a combined 13 appearances on the year. Dimock is 2-0 on the year with a 2.53 ERA, while McLeod is 0-0 with a 4.76 mark.

Carolina is on a season-high seven game winning streak and are 13-1 on the year.
The Tar Heels own the fourth-highest batting average in the ACC with a .317 mark and have tallied the second-most hits.
Carolina has scored 122 runs on the year, the most in the conference.
The pitching staff has turned in the fourth-lowest ERA in the conference this season at 2.81.
Tar Heels Take Two In Midweek
The bats exploded for 24 runs in two games during the midweek as Carolina took down Elon, 16-0, and followed with an 8-1 win over St. John's.
Kent Emanuel picked up the win Tuesday throwing six shutout innings, while Cody Stiles notched the win Wednesday with seven innings of one run ball.
Jacob Stallings scored five runs for UNC on Tuesday on four walks.
