RALEIGH, N.C. - Facing its first outside competition of the spring season, the North Carolina rowing team swept all four races Saturday in a morning of action at Lake Wheeler.
The novice fours opened the day. Carolina's varsity four competed in the race, finishing in 8:09.80, but UNC "A" was the first of the novice boats to cross, in 8:24.71. UNC "B" was next in 8:32.18, followed by George Mason (8:52.41) and West Virginia (9:28.15)
In the novice eights, UNC was first in 7:37.73, with George Mason second in 7:47.78. West Virginia was third in 8:06.71.
Carolina took the second varsity eight narrowly over GMU, crossing in 7:23.60 with the Patriots just behind in 7:25.07. West Virginia came in at 7:47.10.
In the closest race of the day, Carolina's varsity eight crossed in 7:12.60, edging West Virginia, which finished in 7:13.20. George Mason was third in 7:31.30.
