Carolina Golfers Hold Strong at Bryan National Collegiate

The North Carolina women's golf team remains among the top teams after the second round of the Bryan National Collegiate. The Tar Heels posted a 14-over-par 302 and were led by junior Allie White.
White, from Lancaster, Ohio, spearheaded the team posting a one-under 71 and is now tied for second at 145. Junior Catherine O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., was the day's second low Tar Heel carding a two-over 74. O'Donnell sits tied for eighth two strokes behind White at 147. Casey Grice, a freshman from College Station, Tex., shot a six-over 78 and is tied for 32nd at a 154 total. Sophomore Courtney Gunter, from Matthews, N.C., posted a seven-over 79 while freshman Katherine Perry, of Cary, N.C., finished one stroke back at eight-over 80. Perry is tied for 40th at 154 and Gunter is tied for 47th at 155. Sophomore Michelle Ahn, playing as an individual, carded an eight-over 80 and remains tied for 65th at 16-over 160.
Wake Forest overthrew Tennessee for the top spot. The Deacons are at 13-over 589 while Tennessee is only one stroke behind at 14-over 560. Duke and Virginia are tied for third at 18-over 594 and North Carolina sits alone in fifth at 21-over 597. Ohio State is three strokes behind the Tar Heels at 25-over 601 and Louisville is five strokes behind the Buckeyes at 30-over 606. Completing the top 10 are Michigan state at 31-over 607, Vanderbilt at 32-over 608 and Washington at 33-over 609.
Laetitia Beck of Duke is the new individual leader at one-under 143. The rest of the leading players are deadlocked in ties. There is a three-way tie for second at one-over 145 between Virginia's Calle Neilson, Wake Forest's Michelle Shin and North Carolina's White. Laura Anderson of Louisville, Kaitlyn Rohrback of Tennessee and Samantha Swinehart of South Carolina are tied for fifth at two-over 146. At three-over 127 five players are tied for eighth: Duke's Kim Donovan, North Carolina's O'Donnell, Tennessee's Erica Popson, Virginia's Portland Rosen and Wake Forest's Cheyenne Woods.
The 54-hole event continues through Sunday at Bryan Park Champions Course which features a par 72, 6,386-yard layout. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
