Chapel Hill, N.C. - The University of North Carolina football team will participate in the Orange County Habitat for Humanity Build-A-Block project Saturday, April 16, at Phoenix Place in Chapel Hill.
The UNC Build-A-Block project is a student-led initiative to build 10 Habitat for Humanity houses for University and UNC Hospital employee families in the 10 months of the 2010 - 2011 academic school year. This is the first time Orange County Habitat for Humanity has attempted to build an entire block and Saturday is the final build day.
North Carolina student-athletes from all sports have dedicated more than 300 service hours to this community-wide project. The football team will work from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., splitting into shifts from 8:15 a.m.-noon and 12:15 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
The Build-A-Block project was formed when Habitat for Humanity of Orange County approached the UNC student chapter of Habitat with the news that a record number of employees had applied for Habitat housing. For more information on Build-A-Block, visit www.uncbuildablock.org.
