The 2011 University ofNorth Carolina women's golf team has been named the Tar Heel Performer of the Week for the week of April 11-17, 2011.
The Tar Heels were crowned ACC Champions on Sunday as Carolina captured theteam trophy with a 23-over-par 875 total, their first conference title since 1992. It was truly a team effort as four Tar Heels carded top-10 finishes at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, a par 71, 6,181-yard layout. Junior Allie White was the runner-up at 2-over-par 215 while another junior, Catherine O'Donnell, tied for third place at 4-over 217. The remaining Tar Heel participants are all freshman. Katherine Perry placed sixth at 8-over 221, Casey Grice tied for seventh at 9-over 222 and Jackie Chang tied for 21st at 19-over 232.
The Tar Heels grabbed the lead on the first day when they fired a 5-over-par 289, but they really separated themselves from the field on Saturday when they fired a 2-over 286, 16 stokes better than any other team, giving them a 24-stroke advantage going into Sunday's final round. The Tar Heels played very solid golf for the first half of the round, finishing the front nine at 2-over, better then any other team. Scores were a bit higher on the back nine, but Carolina's lead by that point was insurmountable and the Tar Heels maintained the 24-stroke margin they held at the beginning of the day.
