Two Tar Heels Selected To Women's Golf All-ACC Team

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Atlantic Coast Conference Champion North Carolina placed two players, Catherine O'Donnell and Allie White, on the 2011 All-ACC Women's Golf Team and Tar Heel head coach Jan Mann, in her second year at the helm, was voted the ACC Coach of the Year by her colleagues.
This marks O'Donnell's third straight year on the all-conference squad and she was also selected the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2009. This was White's second All-ACC selection, the first coming in 2009.
O'Donnell, a junior from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., has carded four top 10 and seven top 30 finishes this year. Her top performance was a third-place finish at the ACC Championships where she carded a 4-over-par 217 total. She tied for fifth place at the Bryan National Collegiate, placed fifth at The Landfall Tradition and tied for 10th at the Tar Heel Invitational. O'Donnell leads the team with a 73.56 stroke average for the year. The has fired eight under-par rounds, three in the 60s, and one even par round.
White, a junior from Lancaster, Ohio, was the runner-up at the ACC Championships, her top performance as a Tar Heel, posting a 2-over-par 215 total. She played in all five of Carolina's spring events and tied for fifth place at the Bryan National Collegiate. After playing for the Tar Heels in 2008-09, she transferred to Ohio State for a semester before returning to Chapel Hill for the spring 2010 semester. White has a 75.20 scoring average for the year. She has scored two under-par rounds, one in the 60s, and one even par round.
Carolina's Mann was chosen as the league's Coach of the Year, her second such honor in the ACC. She was selected Coach of the Year in 2005 while coaching at Virginia. This year, Mann led the Tar Heels to their second ACC Championship, their first since 1992, finishing 24 strokes ahead of runner-up Duke at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
O'Donnell and White were joined on the 12-person all-conference squad by Laetitia Beck and Lindy Duncan of Duke, Maria Salinas of Florida State, Jessica Hollandsworth of Maryland, Maria Ronderos of Miami, Brittany Altomare and Calle Nielson of Virginia, and Natalie Sheary, Michelle Shin and Cheyenne Woods of Wake Forest.
Duncan, a sophomore from Duke, was selected the ACC Player of the Year while teammate Beck was chosen as the ACC Freshman of the Year.
The Tar Heels return to action this week as they play in the NCAA East Regional this Thursday through Saturday at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
