CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman Colin Moran pulled in another honor on Monday when he was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-America team. Moran has paced the Tar Heels in his initial campaign with a .335 average and a team-high 69 RBI.
Moran leads the ACC in runs batted in with 69 and needs just one more to join Dustin Ackley as the only freshmen in school history to reach 70 RBI in a freshman season.
The Rye, N.Y., native was named to the first team becoming just the second Tar Heel to earn first team honors, joining Colin Bates in 2008. Matt Harvey (2008) and Levi Michael (2009) were both second team selections during their freshmen campaigns.
The 2011 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 14.
