DURHAM, N.C. - Freshman third baseman Colin Moran was named to the Baseball America All-America First Team on Wednesday. Moran was one of four first team members from the Atlantic Coast Conference as he was joined by Virginia's Danny Hultzen, Clemson's Brad Miller and Florida State's Sean Gilmartin.
Moran has paced the Tar Heels all season long at the plate hitting .335 on the year with an ACC-leading 69 RBI while playing in all 64 games so far.
The Rye, N.Y., native becomes the first Tar Heel to earn a first team All-America honor as a freshman and is just the sixth player in school history to earn a Baseball America All-America First Team honor.
Moran joins Dustin Ackley (2009), Russ Adams (2002), Scott Bankhead (1984), Andrew Miller (2006) and B.J. Surhoff (1985) as Baseball America First Team selections.
Moran and the Tar Heels open the 2011 College World Series on Saturday when they take on No. 6 national seed Vanderbilt at 2 p.m. ET.
