GREENSBORO, N.C. - William Parker, a sophomore from Shelby, N.C., represents the University of North Carolina men's tennis team on the 2011 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team as announced Thursday by ACC commissioner John D. Swofford.
Parker is a sophomore economics major who had a spectacular season for the Tar Heels in 2011 after seeing limited action his freshman year. Parker went 20-11 in all singles matches during the 2010-11 season and was at his best during dual match play when he went 15-5, including several match-clinching victories. He played the majority of his matches at No. 5 singles, going 11-4 there. He won nine of 11 matches in ACC play.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career.
