Carolina Golfer To Play In World University Games

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina golfer Catherine O'Donnell will be participating in the 2011 World University Games. O'Donnell will be one of the participants on Women's Team USA. The games will be played August 12-23 in Shenzen, China, but the Golf Championship will take place August 17-20.
O'Donnell, a rising senior from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., won the 2010 World University Golf Championship in Malaga, Spain in June 2010. She is a three-time All-ACC performer who was selected the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2009. She was chosen to the 2011 Ping Golfweek All-America third team. O'Donnell, who finished third at the 2011 ACC Championship, carded five top-10 finishes and seven top-25 finishes for the Tar Heels last year.
"It is a great honor to be selected to participate in the World University Games," said O'Donnell. "Having the opportunity to represent the United States is extremely exciting and I can't wait. Coach Thomason has put together a great team and I look forward to playing for her again." Thomason was also the U.S. coach at last summer's World University Golf Championship.
Diane Thomason, former head coach at the University of Iowa has been chosen to coach the team. Rounding out the squad are Caroline Powers, a rising junior at Michigan State; Tessa Teachman, a rising senior at LSU; Brooke Beeler, a rising senior at TCU; and Emily Talley, a rising senior at Colorado.
