World University Games Third Round Results
SHENZEN, CHINA -
University of North Carolina golfer Catherine O'Donnell fired a 2-over-par 74 in the third round of the World University Games as Team USA is in fourth place with a 440 total. The final round of the games will be played Saturday at Mission Hills Golf Club, a par-72 layout, in Shenzen, China.
O'Donnell, a rising senior from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., is tied for 14th place in the individual race with a 6-over 222 total. O'Donnell won the 2010 World University Golf Championship in Malaga, Spain in June 2010. She is a three-time All-ACC performer who was selected the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2009. She was chosen to the 2011 Ping Golfweek All-America third team. O'Donnell, who finished third at the 2011 ACC Championship, carded five top-10 finishes and seven top-25 finishes for the Tar Heels last year.
Taiwan leads the team competition with a 420 total while Spain is in second place at 434 and China is third at 438, just two strokes ahead of the USA. In the individual race, Hsuanyu Yao of Taiwan and Tzuchi Lin are tied for the lead at 6-under-par 210. Min Jeong Ko of South Korea is one stroke back in third place at 5-under 211 while Katerina Ruzickova of the Czech Republic is in fourth place at 3-under 213 and China's Jiayun Li is fifth at 1-under 215.
